Photos: Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center

This is just a quick update on the University Hospital expansion, formally titled the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. The timing seems appropriate, as IBJ's Cory Schouten reported this weekend that Melvin and Bren Simon are on the verge of donating their Carmel estate to the IU Foundation. The hospital expansion, located on the NW corner of University and Michigan, sits directly across Michigan from the IUPUI Campus Center. Jason at Circle and Squares has just posted part one of his three part write-up on that building.

Here are a couple photos of the on-going expansion work. The landscaping and sign work are relatively recent.

Who in God's name designed that thing? It looks like something straight out of the 50s or 60s. What a shame next to the wonderful new campus center.

I'm not going to praise this design -- in fact, I hate the way they designed its interaction with the corner of Michigan and University -- but as far as hospital architecture goes, this is far from the worst things out there.

What in gods name gives you the right to condemn a place that has saved my life?
The inside of the building is so beatiful. The infusion suites are beautiful.
Cancer is not pretty. The building looks fine. That place saves more lives and has more positive ways of thinking than you ever will.
