What is with these "soaring" canopies on every new building?

I don't believe Ratio was the architect of this building, but the impact of their house style is apparent. There are certainly worse types of architecture to have, that's for sure.
The more I look at this picture, the more I see "church": soaring style, steeple/spire element, solid look and feel.
