When the building was opened, that space was not finished, left with bare drywall. Sometime last year, it was refinished as an office suite. So that might have ben a renege, but given that that area wasn't designed with direct canal-front doors, I think it might just be that a departmental use wasn't specified for that space by the time they opened.

The space I focus on here has not had any movement since the building opened. My wife and I eat fairly regularly at the restaurants in Buggs Temple and I frequently walk by this space so I can peak in the window. Nothing ever looks different, no sign that they want to use that for something else.

It's a pretty big space. Theoretically, I think it could easily house two to three different mall/City Market type restaurant stands with seating (and canal-side seating). A full-service restaurant is probably a stretch and not the kind of thing they need in that building (and that sort of space already exists in Buggs).CorrNDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15371462855078578516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8204262104363891364.post-86238009709947976472009-09-14T21:02:52.538-04:002009-09-14T21:02:52.538-04:00So glad you pointed this space out. It's one ...So glad you pointed this space out. It's one that I had more or less written off, but it seems you have found an opportunity. I'd agree that Fairbanks Hall is more or less a disaster from the canal side and the front; it even provides free off-street parking to unaffiliated visitors to the building (see my recent blog post for more). Does this mean that HITS building developers have reneged on their original promise, or do they plan to occupy the space in your picture for canal-level dining?AmericanDirthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04600555386886915000noreply@blogger.com
