Photos: Urban Public Utilities

I believe this relatively new building on Illinois near St. Clair is part of Indy's chilled water system (I'm sure thundermutt knows for sure!). My question: if you're going to build a public utility structure on an urban street, do we give them credit for at least attempting to gussy it up? Or does this still fall short?

Photo: New York St. Bike Lane

I'm unsure about the purpose of this sign but I noticed it at the Southeast corner of New York and West over the weekend. It's clearly oriented to the sidewalk so my only thought is that it's a warning to pedestrians that the area immediately beyond the curb is the future New York bike lane -- look closely on the pavement and you'll see "BIKE LANE" spray painted. If so, however, the sign is oddly offset well to the right of the New York pedestrian crossing (off the left edge of this photo).

On the day of the Great Indianapolis Snow Storm of '09.
Probably shouldn't have been out driving.
Definitely shouldn't have been taking pictures out my windshield.
